I have a passion for art!

I have done painting and other artwork since I was a small child, and I still use my Polish maiden’s name of Susanka Biernat.

I received my degrees in Fine Art and Psychology from the University of Alaska Anchorage, where I was inspired by my mentor, Russian-American artist, Wassily Somer (a protege of the Russian abstract painter Kandinsky). This fostered my love of using bold colors and movement in my paintings.

I have used art extensively with the emotionally-challenged, survivors of assault and in the correctional system. Now retired, I enjoy concentrating on my art and teaching others, especially children, to develop the creative process like I had as a child.

Throughout my life and travels I have been honored to meet many people of different cultures and backgrounds. I particularly enjoy depicting faces and figures of all colors, chapes, and ages. I am very aware of the human condition and strive to show empathy and respect through my portraits.

My favorite medium is oil paint, which gives fluidity and richness to my canvases. Recently, I have branched out to include integrating found objects and 3 dimensional in my work.

I welcome interest and inquiries about my work and have many stories to tell about the creations that I have produced. I hope that my work will inspire enjoyment and growth from my joy as an artist.
